Another year has passed and I am finally back to writing another Reflections. It’s been somewhat of an uneventful year but that may just be that my 2022 was such a big year for me. I felt that I achieved a lot in 2022, a bit too much perhaps. At least career-wise at my current company, I think that I have achieved everything that I wanted and more. I built a lot of confidence and proved that I was capable of leading at least a 10 man development team, so what’s next?

Reflections (2022) - Becoming Head of Engineering

My year started off by getting promoted to the Head of Engineering of a small subsidiary company. To be honest, when I was first offered the opportunity, I had a lot of hesitation. At 25, I had never imagined that I would get such a position so early on in my career. Although I had led a few teams leading up to this, I still had a lot of doubt if I was ready. I always kept coming back to thinking of how many more years of experience many of my team members had over me that surely, I wasn't qualified to lead them let alone be responsible for an entire department. Surely, I just wasn't ready.

2020 has without a doubt, been a year to remember. I went from watching my home country burn, to the beginning of a cultural revolution across the ocean and to top it off, a virus making waves around the world. On a personal level, it has really been a year to evaluate where I was and eventually deciding it was time to leave my job.
