Another year has passed and I am finally back to writing another Reflections. It’s been somewhat of an uneventful year but that may just be that my 2022 was such a big year for me. I felt that I achieved a lot in 2022, a bit too much perhaps. At least career-wise at my current company, I think that I have achieved everything that I wanted and more. I built a lot of confidence and proved that I was capable of leading at least a 10 man development team, so what’s next?

My year started off by getting promoted to the Head of Engineering of a small subsidiary company. To be honest, when I was first offered the opportunity, I had a lot of hesitation. At 25, I had never imagined that I would get such a position so early on in my career. Although I had led a few teams leading up to this, I still had a lot of doubt if I was ready. I always kept coming back to thinking of how many more years of experience many of my team members had over me that surely, I wasn't qualified to lead them let alone be responsible for an entire department. Surely, I just wasn't ready.

2020 has without a doubt, been a year to remember. I went from watching my home country burn, to the beginning of a cultural revolution across the ocean and to top it off, a virus making waves around the world. On a personal level, it has really been a year to evaluate where I was and eventually deciding it was time to leave my job.

Once you're ready to venture forth into the job market, it's time to put all of your hard work to use. Before worrying about which companies you would like to apply for, the first thing you should do is to make yourself discoverable.

Finding your first job isn't easy, at least for the majority of people. There are so many things to look through and even more to stress about. Where do you even start? What are you even meant to say during interview but even before then, how do you even land one?
